Hidden and Overt messages.
Hidden- Insinuated.
Overt- Obvious / clear message.
Hidden messages are messages that are subliminal. They are something that you do not realise what its saying. For example in the cilitbang advert's overt message is that cilitbang will make your house clean. Its hidden message is that its powerful, easy and it leaves women in control of what they are doing.
Emotional
The advert makes you believe that the product is a solution to a problem the viewer might/will have. The advert makes you question a problem, it makes you believe that the problem is big and if you buy the product the problem will go away. It makes you say "Do i need this in my life?" and by the end of the advert the customer will be saying "Yes, i do"
Fear or concern
They use fear as a tool for control. A lot of time you see this in adverts that are on about the public health such as smoking and drink driving. Not many adverts use this as it is quite a serious advert and the company has to be careful how they use it. They have to be careful as they do not want to offend the customer. But fear is a powerful way in which they can control people ,that is why governments like to make sure they make a problem bigger than it actually is.
Compassion
these adverts make sure the advert shows care , love and compassion to persuade the viewer to buy their product. A lot of the time it is associated with people who are in need. It makes the reader feel guilty and upset about what they have been showed. A lot of the time these types of adverts are trying to persuade you to donate money to a particular charity.
Celebrity endorsement
It is a popular technique that companies use to persuade the viewer that they want the product. They use this technique to link the product with the reader. It is also a really cheap way of advertising because all they really need to do it pay the celebrity and that is really it. This also includes hidden and overt messages as it makes the viewer think "If i buy this product i will be like this celebrity".
